Interested in short fiction about life in the modern city? How can we write stories set in the contemporary urban environment? Can the traditional short story capture the complexity of urban life? This course aims to stimulate writing – and reading – about how we live in the city, provide writers with the chance to develop their craft and present their work for detailed discussion by the group.

This workshop is intended for those already involved in the writing process.  It introduces some  ‘ways in’ to writing that stir both memory and the imagination. It offers a warm and constructive environment to read and gain feedback on recent work and the focus of the workshop is on participants’ own poems.

How social media can help a writer get noticed? During this one-day course, Laurence O'Bryan, author of The Istanbul Puzzle, will go through his experiences of using social media to get published and to help launch his first novel. The course will focus on helping you develop a meaningful social media presence. Sessions on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, YouTube, developing a social media identity and on how to build a following are all included on the day.
