Molly McCloskey

Molly McCloskey

Molly McCloskey was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Oregon. She moved to Ireland in 1989. She is the author of two short story collections – Solomon’s Seal and The Beautiful Changes. Her stories have won prizes, including the RTE/Francis MacManus Award and the FISH Short Story Competition. Her first novel, Protection, was published by Penguin Ireland in 2005, and her first full-length work of non-fiction, Circles Around the Sun – a memoir about her brother’s schizophrenia and its effects on him and on the family – will be published by Penguin Ireland in June 2011.

She was the Writer Fellow at Trinity College Dublin in 2009/2010, where she taught non-fiction on the M.Phil. in Creative Writing. She is a regular contributor to the Irish Times and the Dublin Review. For the latter, she has written essays on topics as diverse as Kosovo, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, basketball, aid work in Somalia, and attending class reunions.

Molly will be teaching a weekend course Writing Non-fiction: Memoir and the Personal Essay at the Irish Writers' Centre on Saturday 6th August and Sunday 7th August.
